Washing Machine Load Helper

An 8 kg washer does not mean every programme accepts 8 kg, and a load can be too bulky even when it is under the weight limit. This helper gives you a rough dry-weight check and keeps the machine capacity separate from the programme limit.

Use the rated dry-laundry capacity on the machine or in its manual. Do not convert a cubic-foot drum size into kilograms.

Optional. Delicates, wool, quick washes and other programmes often allow less than the machine’s headline capacity.

What is in the load?

These are rough dry-weight references. If you can weigh the basket, put that figure in “Other laundry” instead for a better estimate.

Add items to estimate

Add some items or a measured dry weight to see how the load compares.

Weight is only half of the loading check. Bulky items can fill the drum before they reach the kilogram limit, and one heavy absorbent item can be difficult to balance during spin. Keep the load loose rather than packed down, and follow the programme-specific limit in your manual when it is lower than the washer’s rated capacity.

A better way to judge a load

Use dry laundry weight, not the weight after the fabric has absorbed water. If your manual gives a lower maximum for wool, delicates, quick wash or another programme, enter that too. The tool uses the lower of the two limits. Bulky bedding and single heavy absorbent items still need common sense because drum space and balance matter as much as kilograms.
