Read this first. The guides on FixDecoded are general information to help you understand a fault and decide what to do next. They are not a substitute for the manufacturer’s instructions or for a qualified technician.

Working on equipment carries risk

Treadmills, appliances and other equipment covered on this site involve mains electricity, motors, moving belts and rollers, heat, stored energy and in some cases gas or pressurised systems. Injury and damage are possible even when a procedure is followed carefully. Before any inspection:

  • disconnect the equipment from power and confirm it is off
  • follow the safety instructions in your owner’s manual
  • keep hands, clothing, tools and children away from moving parts
  • do not remove covers or carry out powered tests unless you are trained and following the manufacturer’s service procedure
  • stop immediately if you smell burning, see smoke, sparks or damaged wiring, or are unsure about a step

Your equipment may differ

Guides describe typical designs and common causes. Your machine may use different components, adjustments, tolerances or safety systems, and manufacturers change designs between revisions of the same model. Where a guide gives a value or procedure, check it against your own manual before relying on it. If they disagree, the manufacturer’s documentation takes precedence.

No professional relationship

FixDecoded is not your technician, engineer or adviser. Nothing on this site creates a professional relationship, and no guide should be treated as a diagnosis of your specific machine. Decisions about whether to inspect, repair, continue to use or replace equipment are yours, and where safety is concerned they should be made with a qualified professional.

Warranties, insurance and regulations

Opening equipment or performing repairs may void a warranty, breach a service agreement, affect insurance, or be restricted by local regulations (for example, work on gas or fixed electrical installations). Check before you start.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, FixDecoded and its authors accept no liability for injury, loss or damage — including damage to equipment, property, data or business — arising from the use of, or reliance on, information on this site. You use the information at your own risk.
